Burning with Love for Ember

I woke up today with a slight chill due to the cold and snowy weather. I peered out of the window, happy to not have to make a trek into the office, and ready to pour myself a nice hot cup of coffee to get my day started. When I do start my days, I like to take my time with my coffee, Taking small sips in between making the bed, or a shower. I like to savor every moment. But like most warm beverage drinkers know, there’s usually a small window of time that you have to literally finish off your drink, or lest you leave it on the table and forget like I often do with a cup of tea. And while it isn't necessarily a big deal, it certainly is annoying because I despise reheating anything in the microwave. Which is why I was so elated to find out that there was actually a brand with drinkware dedicated to keeping your beverages hot! Enter Ember, whose mission is to “- harness the power of temperature control to transform how the world eats, drinks and lives”. I think they initially just popped up on my instagram feed (the powers that be must have heard me complaining lol) and I’m so glad that it did! I mean, now that I think of it, I’m sure that there have been other brands of temperature controlled mugs in the past (I googled a few), but after some research and reviews, I knew I had to get my hands on this one. The powers of advertising and branding lol. The mug comes in two sizes 10oz and 14oz in a variety of colors, you can control it with your smartphone (not necessary if you don’t have a smartphone, it’ll still work), and its battery life lasts for at least 1 ½ hours, giving you more than enough time to casually sip your beverage of choice. However, you can also place it on the charger stand for all day use, but after 2 hours you should honestly be done with your coffee, like please lol. I’d been eyeing it for a while, but was a little apprehensive due to the price point, but once it started getting colder I just went for it and I have no regrets!

The 10oz mug will run you $99 and the 14oz basically $130, which are both pretty pricey. I got the 10oz but now I feel like I wish I’d just gotten the 14oz because although I don’t necessarily drink multiple huge cups of coffee a day, I find that I end up still wanting a little more once my 10oz is up. But the $130 for the 14oz was just a little ehh to me. Once I got the mug, I ended up also getting the Travel Mug which is so cool too, and it just arrived yesterday! I’m not in office too much these days, but on the mornings in which I do need to venture out, it sucks to once again have to rush with my morning cup of coffee. Either I don't finish it at all before I leave, or I end up having to go to Starbucks or something to buy one when I wish I could just have my one cup of Nespresso with me along my travels. I haven’t used it yet, but so far it looks cool as shit. Its matte black, holds 12oz of liquid, and it doesn’t have any “buttons” on it, but when you turn it on from the power button on the bottom of the bottom of the cup, it’s like these sensors come on allowing you to use touch screen features to control the temp. You can even put your name on it, and it scrolls by like one of those custom name belts we all wore back in High School. I’d advise all of my warm beverage aficionados to just bite the bullet and get one. It’s absolutely worth it, price aside. The travel mug was $180 (eekkk! lol), but I also got the 2 year warranty just in case. And honestly because I figured I’d be getting the travel mug anyways, I could justify spending $180 on that and $130 on the 14oz mug so I mean it all works out. Now I have both so who cares lol. And both totally worth it. I hear somewhere that outside of mugs, Ember is working with its technology in the medical field, so I’d like to do some more research on that. But cheers to the small pleasures in life, and to this delicious cup of Nespresso coffee I’m having as I type this. Grateful to be able to indulge sometime.

Nov Art Appreciation

Hey my Super Nova’s! A lot of the time, especially now, the world can seem so bleak and dismal. We’re in the middle of a never ending pandemic, everyone seems to be addicted to their phones, and despite having the capacity to connect with people even faster all over the world, we seem to be drifting further apart. So when I need a little pick me up to reintroduce some beauty and passion back into my days, I seek out art that inspires and makes me feel good. Basically connecting back to my Libra roots LOL! I’ve always been into going to the museum (even alone most of the time), visiting pop up art exhibits… I just really appreciate the ways people can use their hands and colors to actualize images. There was this one page on instagram dedicated solely to artists and their pieces (so upset I forget what the handle is), but its introduced me to some spectacular pieces of art (which shows that the socials arent all that bad when used correctly). One of the artists that has stood out to me for YEARS is Lina Iris Viktor.

According to her website, Lina is a “Liberian-British Conceptual Artist, Painter, and Performance Artist”, and if you haven’t already taken a look at her pieces, prepare to be amazed. Syzygy was the first painting that I saw from her. The royal blues, golds and blacks instantly captivated me. I’ve always connected with the “royal” color scheme, how they pop out and create contrast on a canvas, clothing, anything really. She often uses real Gold in her works as well, creating beautiful ethereal pieces of art. I believe she uses herself as the subject in her pieces, and I hope that one day she does an exhibition in NYC so that I can really feel the glory in person. Maybe if I’m lucky enough, she’ll even use me as a subject, or I’ll be able to purchase one of the pieces for my own wall. Wishful thinking never hurt nobody! I also have a goal to one day curate my own exhibit with pieces from my friends and other up and coming artists. Check out her marvelous works on her website, and a few of my other faves below. Maybe I’ll make it a thing to highlight some of my favorite artists and pieces both new and old!
